The Human Spirit - Daily Ramblings - July 10, 2018

Thai Soccer Team.jpg

When the notification came across my phone screen this morning that the entire Thai soccer team had been successfully rescued from the cave they had been trapped in for weeks, I was reminded once again about how great the human spirit is! The past few weeks has captured the world's attention as hundreds of people, and a large amount of resources, were used in an attempt to save a small group of people. One man's life was even lost in his attempt to rescue these boys and their coach. What causes someone to risk their lives in an attempt to save another life?

In short, I don't know. Humans seem to be hard wired to do whatever they can to escape situations that will put them in harm's way. We want to save ourselves however we can. Yet there are those who will override that conditioning and put their life at stake in order to save another human being. Do they see the divine in others? Are they hopeful that the person they save will go on to change the world? Do they risk their life to gain the attention of the world? I don't know.

What I do know is that this morning I am fascinated once again by the human spirit and what it can accomplish in this world. I am thankful that there are people whose love for others is so great that they will risk all they have to save another's life. I am in awe over seeing this played out the last few weeks in Thailand.

The human spirit is an amazing thing to see in action!
