Writing Prompt: Long Term Goal Realized - Daily Ramblings
/Today my mind is somewhat blank when it comes to writing about a meaningful topic. In an attempt to keep the habit of writing going I'll use a writing prompt. The prompt? A story about a long-term goal I accomplished.
In high school, I was a tall and skinny kid. Like the kind of skinny where you could count my ribs. I also was a high school kid that enjoyed going out for sports, especially football. The problem was that I was never that great at sports because I lacked the strength and size I needed to play. After football season my senior year, I was tired of being the skinny kid and wanted to do something about it!
When the season was compete I was 6' 4", and was weighing in around 175 pounds. My goal? Gain 25 pounds by the time I started college. I typed the number 200 dozens of times, in a fairly large font, and printed it out. I then cut out the number 200 and taped it everywhere. On the phones, the bathroom mirror, by the TV, in my car, or anywhere else I could possibly see it throughout the day. Every time I saw the number 200 I was reminded to do the work. I began to work out daily and as hard as I could. At the time the only thing I knew about nutrition was that protein made your muscles grow. So I ate everything in sight with protein in it: blocks of cheese, milk, shakes with raw eggs, etc.
As I began to work out daily, and eat as much as I could (with the aid of my raging teenage hormones), I began to see my weight creep up. As I saw success it fed my fuel to work that much harder. By the time I entered college I was weighing in somewhere between 200 and 205. I had done it!
Since that time I have had other goals which have been more fulfilling or more important, but this is my favorite goal I have ever accomplished. This goal did not just change my body, it changed my mind. It showed me that I could put the work into something and see success. It taught me that somethings in life could not be given to you. It taught me how to live life.
